Prof. Risikat Oladoyin Dauda FNES

Professor Risikat Oladoyin Dauda is a Professor of Economics at the University of Lagos. She holds a M.Sc. with distinction from Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics and a Ph.D. from V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, both in Ukraine. She also obtained a PGDE from the University of Lagos. She joined UNILAG as Lecturer II in 1999 and rose through the ranks to become Professor in 2016.

She has served in key leadership roles including pioneer Deputy Director, Media Services and Course Materials Development at the Distance Learning Institute, first female Head of the Department of Economics, Senate representative to the Medical Centre Management Board, and currently as the Director of the Distance Learning Institute, University of Lagos.

Her research focuses on Development Economics with emphasis on human capital, poverty and income distribution, economics of education and health, gender studies, and development finance. She is a prolific scholar with over 80 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Professor Dauda has supervised over 300 undergraduate and 250 postgraduate projects, and currently supervises 4 Ph.D. candidates with 9 successfully supervised to completion. She is an external examiner, assessor for professorial promotions, and reviewer/editor for notable journals. She has consulted widely and served as a resource person on African development issues, while also contributing to policy through the Nigerian Economic Summit Group and Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Professor Dauda has received several awards including Best Paper Award in Economics at the 5th International Business Research Conference, Dubai 2007, and the UNILAG Faculty of Social Sciences Best Researchers Award 2018. She has benefited from travel grants from PASGR, RETRIDOL, and FALCONESS to Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, and Germany. Internationally, she mentors women in economics, chairs the Health Economics Working Group at the University of Birmingham, and serves as a jury member for the WAIFC Young Academic Award. She is currently leading a TETFUND/IBR project on Fintech and financial literacy. A member of NES, IAFFE, NIM and other professional bodies, Professor Dauda is happily married with children.
